FEM-IoT

This is an alliance to enhance the implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT).

The Internet of Things enables the digital interconnection of all kinds of objects to achieve remote control and intelligent interaction among them. It is a technology associated with social challenges such as industrial competitiveness, sustainable mobility, energy consumption reduction, and the digitization of society.

The Fem IoT consortium brings together 12 Catalan universities and research centers to establish a laboratory where innovative technology will be researched and created for the smart city. With special emphasis on the autonomous and connected vehicle, which is expected to revolutionize the current concept of mobility.

Coordinating entity:

i2Cat, Internet and Digital Innovation Foundation in Catalonia

The action is structured into two projects:

  1. Connected Street Infrastructures. Definition and development of an Internet of Things infrastructure for the streets of the city of the future. It must be low-power because there will be millions of deployed devices and data must be extractable to generate intelligent decisions.
  2. Valorization of IoT Data. Development of a platform for analyzing heterogeneous data on a large scale, collaborative and open, as well as artificial intelligence algorithms focused on use cases.

This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union within the framework of the FEDER Operational Program of Catalonia 2014-2020 with a grant of €1,997,659.60.
