Presentation of upcoming AEI calls for the second half of 2026

The State Research Agency (AEI) has presented, during a webinar, the grant call package for the second half of 2026, allocated with over €1.2 billion (an additional €100 million compared to the previous financial year).

The AEI presented during the webinar the main novelties and features of the calls due to be published and opened in the coming months, in accordance with its schedule. You can consult the information at:

 

 

Featured project calls

  • International Collaboration Projects (PCI 2026-2): the application deadline will be open from 5 to 19 October 2026.
  • Knowledge Generation Projects (PID 2026): The application period will run from 3 to 24 November 2026, with a total budget of 724 million euros.
    • NEW: Bilateral collaboration projects are reintroduced this year; specifically with Poland (NCN) and Switzerland (SNSF) across all fields of knowledge.
  • Public-Private Collaboration Projects (CPP 2026): The call is postponed until spring 2027 due to adaptation to the new European state aid regulatory framework.

Other highlights include the management of the Ramón y Cajal call, including an update of the CVA evaluation criteria and the requirement to submit an R&D project with a minimum budget of €200,000 (direct costs). This call is managed by the Talent Attraction Unit.

During the session, the bringing forward of the processing schedule was also highlighted, a milestone that gives researchers and universities more time to prepare and submit applications.
