Innovation Management Service (SGI)

The UPC Innovation Management Service (SGI) has as its main function the valorisation of research results, understood as the process of supporting technological maturation, the advancement of TRL to bring technologies closer to the market. The main activities are: the protection of intellectual and industrial property results, the valorisation of technologies, the creation of spin-offs based on research results and the promotion of an entrepreneurial culture throughout the UPC community.

The Head of the Service is Cristina Areste and the service is organised into the following Units:

Valorisation and Transfer Unit


The Valorisation and Transfer Unit promotes the return to society of the research results generated at the UPC. It is in charge of protecting intellectual and industrial property, technology valorisation and licensing management, as well as providing strategic support for the creation and consolidation of technology-based companies (spin-offs) derived from the University.

      The Innovation Management Service is made up of two main areas:

      Advising teaching and research staff on intellectual and industrial property (IP) strategy and portfolio management.

      Valorisation of research

      Accompanying teaching and research staff in the maturation processes of research results and supporting the advancement of technologies to the market. Search for funding through valorisation grants.                 

      Technology transfer

      Advising teaching and research staff on technology commercialisation strategies, licensing to third parties or supporting the creation of knowledge-based companies (spin-offs).

      Entrepreneurship and innovation
      Pre-incubation Emprèn UPC is the programme for promoting an entrepreneurial culture and supporting the creation of new technology-based and/or innovative companies aimed at UPC students and/or recent graduates with an early-stage project.
      Incubation

      Initiatives to support the consolidation of new technology-based and/or innovative companies promoted by members of the UPC community: start-ups and spin-offs.
