Innovation Management Service (SGI)

The Innovation Management Service of UPC has as its main function the valorization of research results, understood as the process of supporting technological maturation, advancing TRL to bring technologies to the market. The main activities are: protecting the results of intellectual and industrial property, valorizing technologies, creating spin-offs based on research results, and promoting entrepreneurial culture throughout the UPC community.

The head of the service is Cristina Aresté, and is organised into the following Units:

Cross-functional Support



The Innovation Management Service is composed of two main areas:

Valorisation and Transfer
Technology Protection Advising teachers on intellectual and industrial property (IP) strategy and portfolio management.
Research Valorisation Supporting trachers in research results maturation processes and assisting in advancing technologies to the market.
Technological Transfer Advising teachers on technological commercialization strategies, third-party licensing, or supporting the creation of knowledge-based companies (spin-offs).
Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Pre-incubation Emprèn UPC is the program to foster entrepreneurial culture and support the creation of new technology-based and/or innovative companies aimed at UPC students and/or recent graduates with a project in its initial phase.
Incubation Initiatives to support the consolidation of new technology-based and/or innovative companies promoted by members of the UPC community: start-ups and spin-offs.
Acceleration Initiatives to support accelerated development and/or growth of new technology-based and/or innovative companies promoted by members of the UPC community: start-ups and spin-offs.
