Emerging sectors

UPC participates in six alliances to research and develop new technologies in emerging sectors. Public and private entities collaborate to promote new scenarios such as smart factories, 3D printing, or quantum computing.

Among these collaborations, UPC leads Looming Factory. It's the alliance dedicated to accelerating the arrival of the Industry 4.0, a modernized industrial context where facilities, robots, and workers will be interconnected to achieve the same function.

UPC also participates in the Base3D, DRAC, FEM-IoT, FusionCAT, and QuantumCAT alliances.

The six alliances are part of the R&I (research and innovation) strategy for Catalonia's smart specialization (RIS3CAT) which, driven by the Generalitat, is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
