The UPC hosts the Infoday of the Siemens Energy AI Chair to boost research in AI applied to the energy transition

Nov 19, 2025

A day to share progress, enhance synergies, and strengthen collaboration between the UPC and Siemens Energy in the field of artificial intelligence applied to the energy transition.

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) held the Infoday of the Siemens Energy AI Chair in the Àgora Hall of the North Campus, a joint initiative between the UPC and Siemens Energy, supported by the ENIA programme, aimed at advancing the application of artificial intelligence to energy sustainability, digitalisation, and decarbonisation.

The event made it possible to present the first results, objectives, and lines of action of the Chair, as well as the activities planned for the coming months, which include hackathons, collaborative projects, and new spaces for interaction between research and industry.

The event featured:

  • The institutional presentation of the Siemens Energy AI Chair, where the initial progress and the collaboration opportunities it offers were presented.

  • The presentation of projects and success stories showing how AI can improve the efficiency of energy processes and contribute to more sustainable production.

  • A round table entitled “Smart Decarbonisation: The Role of AI in a Sustainable Future”, with participation from Siemens Energy representatives, UPC researchers, and guest experts, who analysed the challenges and trends in smart decarbonisation.

In the afternoon session, internal activities enabled the doctoral students linked to the Chair to present their research work and take part in group dynamics to share methodologies and identify synergies. The day concluded with the meeting of the Steering Committee, responsible for defining the next strategic actions of the initiative.

The Siemens Energy AI Chair is thus consolidated as a key space for promoting high-impact research and the transfer of knowledge in the field of advanced energy technologies, reinforcing the UPC’s commitment to a greener, more digital, and smarter society.
